Things to Do Before Your Painter Arrives
Anyone who’s ever done any interior painting knows that you can’t just wake up one day and decide to start painting, especially if you’re planning on hiring a professional. There are several tasks that you need to complete to ensure that your home and walls are ready. If you’re considering painting your home, here are some of the key steps you should take to help your painter finish the project as efficiently as possible.
Check Your Existing Paint
If you live in an older home that was built prior to 1979, it’s possible that the paint on your walls is lead-based. It’s good to inform the painter of this before they arrive so can plan accordingly.
Clear Your Walls
Take down any pictures and other hangings from your wall ahead of time. Don’t wait until the painter is on the way to start clearing the walls out. Not only is the process likely to take longer than you expected but clearing out the wall a few days ahead of time gives you the opportunity to see if there are any bigger holes that need to be plugged before painting starts.
Clean Your Walls
Dirty walls usually lead to unprofessional-looking interior painting jobs. Whether it’s uneven painting or chipping, painting over dirty walls will likely not meet your standards when done regardless of your painter’s capabilities.
Clear the Area
The easier it is to access the walls, the easier it will be for the painter to complete the job and to do so efficiently. For this to happen, make sure that any furniture, rugs, decorations and other obstructions are out of the way. You may also want to cover them up just to make sure they don’t get any accidental paint stains.
If your home requires special accommodations, be sure to inform the painter before their arrival. As with other important activities, the more you prepare for your interior painting project, the more likely it is that you’ll have a positive experience.
